Reforestation

Prolena’s reforestation program is directed in three regions:

In La Paz Centro, Leon region, where it is estimated an annual consumption of 20,000 tons of firewood by small brick-making industries of the region.

In San Rafael del Sur, Managua region, where 20,000 tons of firewood are also estimated to be consumed by the small-scale lime production industry

In San Benito, Tipitapa, where a cooperative of firewood transporters amounts to more than 60 truck drivers who make their living on the commercialization of firewood in Managua.

In the year 2007, 110,300 seedlings were planted.

Advantage in the tubetes system in relation to plant production in the plastic bag system

• Directed towards the plant root system
• Roots and plants, strong and healthy
• Rationing of the work of planting, with less soil, fertilizers, defensive applications and water used
• Rationing of labor and operation costs, and transport of plants
• Less area for the nursery
• Better work conditions, the workers work inside a covered area, in an ergonomically correct position, consequently with greater work output
• The small plants can be packed in  groupsof 50 plants for transport and planting without any technical problems
• The phytosanitary control is ideal, one needs only eliminate the affected plants in the plot since they are planted in independent holders.
